Ratioed ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Ratioed website and mobile application (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights over it.
By using the Service you agree to the collection and use of information as described here. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Who we are
Ratioed is the data controller for personal data collected through the Service. You can contact us at legal@ratioed.co.

- Password hash (Argon2id — we never store your plaintext password)
- OAuth identifiers from Google, Apple, or X if you sign in via those providers
Content you create
- Ratios (debate questions) you submit
- Votes you cast
- Comments you post
- Profiles of creators you follow
Usage and device data
- IP address
- Browser type and version
- Device type and operating system
- Pages visited and features used
- Timestamps of actions
- Referral source
Analytics data
We use PostHog for product analytics. PostHog may collect events, session data, and technical properties to help us understand how the Service is used. PostHog operates under its own privacy policy.
3. How we use your data
- To provide, operate, and improve the Service
- To authenticate your identity and secure your account
- To personalize your feed and experience
- To send transactional emails (e.g. magic links, account notifications)
- To enforce our Terms of Service and community guidelines
- To comply with legal obligations
- To analyze usage patterns and product performance (analytics)
4. Lawful basis for processing (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, our lawful bases are:
- Contract performance — processing necessary to provide the Service you signed up for.
- Legitimate interests — product analytics, fraud prevention, and service security.
- Legal obligation — where we must comply with applicable law.
- Consent — where you have given explicit consent (e.g. optional marketing emails).
6. Public content
Ratios you create, your display name, handle, profile photo, vote counts, and archetype label are public by default. Anyone — including non-registered visitors — can see this content. Do not post information in public ratios that you would not want to be visible to the world.
7. Data retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or legitimate security purposes.
Anonymised or aggregated data (e.g. vote counts) may be retained indefinitely as it can no longer identify you.
8. Children's privacy (COPPA)
The Service is not directed to children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately at legal@ratioed.co and we will delete it promptly.
Users between 13 and 17 may use the Service with parental awareness. We recommend parents review this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service with their children.
9. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate personal data
- Delete your personal data ("right to be forgotten")
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Data portability (receive your data in a structured format)
- Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

10. California residents (CCPA / CPRA)
California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act:
- The right to know what personal information is collected, used, disclosed, or sold
- The right to delete personal information
- The right to opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information)
- The right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

11. Security
We use industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including TLS encryption in transit, Argon2id password hashing, and access controls on our infrastructure. No system is perfectly secure; if you discover a vulnerability, please disclose it responsibly to legal@ratioed.co.
12. International transfers
Your data may be processed in countries outside your own, including the United States, where data protection laws may differ. Where required (e.g. EEA-to-US transfers), we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or other appropriate safeguards.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified via email or an in-app notice at least 7 days before taking effect. The "Effective" date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
